See below for more Health and Safety information, and visit here for the latest information about Orlando safety, inclusion, and empowerment resources.

The CRLC has been a vital part of our development as consumer advocates. Each year there is something new to learn from experts in the field – whether it’s a changing area of law, an emerging trend, or a novel legal strategy to add to our practice.

Special Offerings This Year in Orlando

This year’s gathering included several special offerings for advocates of varying experience levels and areas of interest.

Introduction to Consumer Law Intensive | October 23, 9:00am – 5:00pm

The second-ever “Introduction to Consumer Law” one-day pre-conference intensive is intended for both new attorneys and those with more experience who are relatively new to the practice of consumer law. Join a cohort of colleagues to get off to a great start – to both the 2024 CRLC, and your career in consumer law – with sessions and case studies focused on issue spotting, case selection, working with clients, building your case, identifying partnerships and resources, and more. The lessons you learn and the relationships you make will provide a strong foundation for continued growth and success as a consumer champion!

Intensive on Estate Planning & Heirs Property | October 23, 11:00am – 6:00pm

This full-day intensive is geared toward homeowner advocates addressing the problem of heirs property, with an emphasis on helping heirs preserve the family home and build and protect intergenerational wealth. The challenge of fractured ownership puts stable housing at risk in all kinds of communities, but the risks are felt disproportionately in communities of color.

Medical Debt Intensive | October 23, 1:00 – 5:00pm

Medical debt collection tactics can be aggressive and may include wage garnishment, bank account seizure, liens on property, and even civil arrest warrants. This course will cover some defenses to aggressive medical debt collection, highlighting existing state and federal level protections that attorneys can leverage for their clients, and identify opportunities for advocates interested in pushing for more robust medical debt collection protections. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences defending clients against aggressive medical debt collection and best practices they have learned in the field.

Annual Consumer Class Action Symposium | October 26-27

This year, NCLC’s 24th annual Class Action Symposium will include substantive panel sessions, lightning round presentations and roundtable discussions on topics of specific interest to experienced consumer class action practitioners. We will facilitate an interactive experience with a goal of sharing ideas and takeaways and to support ongoing collaboration. We will address evolving changes and emerging developments in class action practice, including: noteworthy court of appeals rulings; discovery techniques; evidentiary challenges and opportunities; developments in class administration;  mass arbitration and mass torts as alternatives to class actions; and ethical issues of particular importance in complex litigation cases.

Host Committee

Dear Colleague,

We look forward to welcoming you and over 800 members of the consumer law community to Orlando this October for the 33rd annual Consumer Rights Litigation Conference (CRLC) and Class Action Symposium!

As it is every year, the 2024 CRLC will be centered on dozens of substantive training sessions on the intricacies of every major consumer law practice area, combined with myriad networking opportunities to get to know and learn from your peers and leaders in the field. You’ll learn how to effectively represent your clients, take on corporate wrongdoing, and fight together for economic justice for vulnerable people and families.

The city of Orlando, where we’ll gather, is a diverse, welcoming, multicultural community with a long history of passing laws to ensure that it is “a city for everyone,” a non-discrimination ordinance dating back over five decades, and a Human Relations Office promoting equality and enforcing city and federal laws that prohibit discrimination. Orlando was recently named the “Top Meeting Destination in North America” for the ninth time, and our conference hotel, the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, was identified as one of the Top 200 Meeting Hotels on the entire continent.

As Floridians, we’re proud of Orlando’s hospitality and history of progressive policies, including support for local workers, and we welcome your support and participation in the struggle for equity and equality in our state. We’ve fought for years here, on the front lines, fighting wrongdoing and corporate bullying, and we are excited to have you join us in person. Moreover, we are dedicated to working with NCLC and NACA to ensure the safety of every conference attendee and to organize opportunities to take action against injustice when you’re in Florida – and after you return home.

In our line of work there’s no substitute for a strong community, and the CRLC is where we come together to learn, connect, and get inspired to take on the challenges ahead. We hope you’ll join us to do all of those things and more, and we look forward to seeing you in Orlando this October!

Sponsorship and Exhibitors

The Consumer Rights Litigation Conference offers many tiered opportunities to help support and underwrite the cost of the CRLC, as well as ones designed for like-minded attorneys to gather, network, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company. We have found that offering co-sponsorship opportunities for these events allows for shared responsibility and ownership of them, creating a further sense of community.

Health and Safety

Safety, Inclusion and Empowerment at the 2024 CRLC in Orlando

NCLC and NACA are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all conference attendees. We welcome the input of our community and encourage you to email [email protected] with your suggestions.

As organizations committed to equity and justice, NCLC and NACA are opposed to discrimination. We understand – and share – the concerns in our community about holding a conference in a state that has displayed unacceptable hostility towards historically and systemically marginalized communities. We stand in solidarity with people in Florida who have been singled out and harmed by recent legislation and policies undermining equality for all and limiting fundamental rights.

Orlando Resources

COVID Policy

We are planning for an in-person 2024 CRLC and are committed to the health and safety of attendees. All community members will be asked to abide by the NCLC/NACA Conferences COVID Policy when they register for the conference.

NCLC and NACA are committed to a safer conference environment for everyone that emphasizes mutual respect and inclusion for all attendees. We expect all attendees to follow our Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy, which provides a process for reporting and investigation. Information will be available in the conference app and in follow-up communication to registrants.
