National Center on Law & Elder Rights provided this free webinar on Helping Older Borrowers Apply for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge.

Coming out of the student loan payment pause, federal student loan debt remains a burden for many Americans, especially older borrowers. Many of these borrowers, age 60 or older, are struggling with a disability that prevents them from working to pay back the loans they took out for their own education or to pay for their children’s or grandchildren’s education. These borrowers may be eligible to have their federal student loan debt discharged under the Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge Program.

This webinar covers:

  • Overview of the TPD Discharge Program, including new TPD discharge rules and the application process;
  • Eligibility for the TPD Discharge Program through Social Security Disability determination, -Veteran disability status, or disability certification from a qualified medical professional; and
  • Effects of a TPD Discharge.
