Daniel J. Schneider

Supervisory Attorney at Legal Action Chicago

Daniel J. Schneider is supervisory attorney at Legal Action Chicago, where he oversees complex litigation and policy initiatives focused on assisting and removing barriers for people in poverty, particularly in the areas of housing, consumer rights, and public utilities.

In 2023, Daniel helped to secure groundbreaking discount rates for 1 million-plus Illinois gas utility customers, and he served as class counsel in Oliver v. Chicago Housing Authority, a class action settlement that is providing millions of dollars in rent relief for Chicago public housing’s poorest residents.

“This year, Daniel provided exceptional co-counsel in groundbreaking and complex litigation on behalf of Illinois utility customers,” said Rich Dubois, executive director of the National Consumer Law Center. “Daniel’s zealous advocacy has led to meaningful results for low-income consumers, including securing discount water rates for struggling Illinois customers and defeating a Chicago Housing Authority proposal that threatened to push 1,500 of the poorest Chicago residents into homelessness. He has also quickly developed a reputation as a mentor to young lawyers, even as a young lawyer himself.”
