Nick Mattison
2020 Rising Star
Nick Mattison is a partner at Feferman, Warren & Mattison in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he has the incredible privilege of learning from consumer law heroes Rick Feferman and Susan Warren. Nick’s practice includes individual cases and class actions against fraudulent car dealers, predatory lenders, abusive debt collectors, and other businesses that rip off consumers. In his first six years with Feferman, Warren & Mattison, Nick litigated a dozen consumer class actions from start to finish. In one of Nick’s class actions, he became the first and only attorney to enforce New Mexico’s payday loan law. The case went all the way to trial, at which Nick’s clients were awarded $7.3 million. In several other class actions, Nick targeted abusive pawn industry practices that have taken advantage of Native Americans for decades. Nick gets impressive results for individual clients as well. In 2016, he won a $10 million dollar verdict against an abusive debt collector. Nick is a 2008 graduate of Harvard Law School. After graduating, Nick clerked for the Honorable Edward L. Chavez on the New Mexico Supreme Court. Before joining Feferman, Warren & Mattison, Nick worked for four years in the Window Rock office of DNA-People’s Legal Services, where he fought for the rights of people living in poverty in the four corners region. Before becoming a lawyer, Nick was an elementary school teacher on the Navajo Nation. When he’s not working, Nick can be found deep in one of New Mexico’s wilderness areas with his amazing wife and two extraordinary daughters.
