We write to comment on HUD’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic through Mortgagee Letter 2021-18. We appreciate that HUD has provided an avenue for borrowers to access significant payment relief through the COVID-19 Recovery Modification. It is essential, however, that HUD take further steps to ensure that its program operates as intended and borrowers are able to obtain teh relift they need to avoid unnecessary foreclosures.
